We have designed this addition to an Edwardian rectory to provide a single volume kitchen to meet the requirements of a modern family. The south side is a transparent elevation of glazed oak doors and clerestory in an elegantly detailed oak screen. Lead clad patent glazing forms a loggia in front, with continuity between its limestone floor and external paved court. Inside, the double-height kitchen is linked to a new entrance hall with mezzanine, cloakrooms and ancillary accommodation forming the third side of the south courtyard. In warm weather the light and airy living space can be opened up, to be continuous with the terrace and formal courtyard beyond.
