A thorough structural overhaul of this masterpiece of Georgian Gothic by Nicholas Hawksmoor has given the College the opportunity to update antiquated services and install IT facilities. The book storage capacity has been significantly increased by re-building the Edwardian bookstore to carry rolling stacks on each level, a complex task involving the demolition and replacement of a four-storey building with a new steel-frame building of similar height, located deep within a land-locked site. Conservation of ceiling plaster, glazing, careful redecoration of the painted interior and the design of many new items of joinery formed part of the scheme.
