Listed Building - Grade II, Listed Building - Grade I
Refurbishment of the delightful Orangery building and ongoing consultation for conservation repairs to the various garden structures including the Grade 1 listed Shell Grotto, the Rotunda, Gothic Tower and Canal. Thomas Goldney, a pioneering 18th century Quaker entrepreneur, and his successors left a remarkable legacy, now in occupation and care of Bristol University. The main house, much altered by Alfred Waterhouse, has a remarkable Grade l garden, dating back to the early 18thC, with many romantic garden features and follies and a complete set of Thomas Goldney's notebooks. The Grade ll listed Orangery, restored in the Early 20thC and heavily in demand since then, was in need of attention. Donald Insall Associates' scheme has successfully improved the acoustics and resolved disparate features such as the sliding mirror-glass doors. The stone floor is beautifully restored, cleaned and sealed and all is contained in a more sympathetic and functional colour scheme.
