A new development of 88 new family homes for affordable rent in the centre of Telford. Approved by a unanimous vote of support by the Telford and Wrekin Council planning committee, the development has delivered much needed housing for affordable rent, comprising two, three and four bedroom houses, and two bedroom bungalows. The layout was designed with consideration of the historic colliery workings, retention of existing trees, sustainable drainage and existing drainage ditches which constrained the site. Thoughtful consideration of the housing design and how it goes together has created an approachable contemporary housing, incorporating robust construction details to ensure the quality and longevity of the development. The design comprises a palette of differing brick colours creating a vibrant and varied appearance along the new streets. Brick details have been used to create contrast and texture in the external facade, brick window cills and brick piers at corners provide visual weight and interest.
