‘Opening Doors’ project to refurbish/ restructure the Grade I listed Mansion House as a new cultural asset. We have worked closely with our client to We have worked closely with our client to build on the feasibility stage proposals of the ‘Opening Doors’ initiative to sensitively refurbish this magnificent Grade 1 listed building and develop a unique and dynamic visitor experience as one of the top cultural and civic attractions in York. The physical and experiential proposals that our team have developed are designed to improve access and provide a considered cultural offer that will inspire a sense of belonging and pride for the citizens of York. The ‘Opening Doors’ project will: - Increase and enhance public access and community involvement in the Mansion House - Develop greater educational provision for adults and children - Improve interpretation of its history -Improve conservation and maintenance of the house and its collections - Reduce the carbon footprint - Achieve long term financial sustainability - Establish the Mansion House in the cultural evolution of the city In bringing to life the socio-cultural history of this Mayoral House and its civic role in the city, we are actively engaging with its stakeholders, the community and local schools to develop a comprehensive understanding of their relationship with the Mansion House and their aspirations for its future role in the city. The ambition of this project will not simply complete with its ‘re-opening’ but will also go on to engender the production of new creative content and an evolving visitor experience at the heart of the City of York brand.
