David Morley Architects and Savills have been commissioned by Groveholt Limited to masterplan a 600 home, 700,000 sqft development in the Derbyshire Dales town of Matlock. The planning principles for the new development reinforce the concept of a spa and healthy living with four distinctive villages set in an open natural environment. The scheme takes advantage of a diverse and spectacular site with rocky outcrops, lakes, an extensive frontage onto the River Derwent and splendid views out to the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District National Park. Car parking is discretely hidden away from the roads and the layout encourages an active lifestyle, giving priority to walking and cycle routes which link the town centre to the Derwent Valley heritage trail and beyond.
