This scheme has redeveloped a redundant farmyard site which lay within the village conservation area in Padbury. The development included the conversion of a former single storey brick barn into two dwellings, the conversion of a former part two and part single storey brick farm building into a detached 2 bedroom dwelling, the demolition of unsightly farm buildings, the construction of four 4 and 5 bedroom detached houses and the replacement of an existing open fronted timber framed hay store with a similar structure, for use as covered parking. The houses were planned around a courtyard type space that is reminiscent of a traditional farmyard form, creating a sense of enclosure. The houses have traditional roof spans and pitches, under natural slate roofs. Walls are brick to match adjacent farmyard buildings with restrained eaves and arch detailing consistent with that found elsewhere on the site. Eaves levels have been kept as low as possible and the proportions and patterns of window openings are traditional. Privacy between the houses and adjacent buildings has been achieved through the layout and by careful planning of the internal accommodation.
