Ralph Allen's Town House , 2 Church Street , Bath , Somerset , BA1 1NL
The original farm in Downend, Bristol dates back to the 16th Century, the project comprised the restoration of Grade II Listed Farmhouses and outbuildings to form a quality residential development. The site was particularly difficult to develop due to the dilapidated condition of the existing buildings and the high cost of restoration. The new build proposals are designed to be sympathetic to the style and character of the Listed Buildings, following a detailed assessment of the local farm-building vernacular. The siting of the new houses has been carefully chosen in the light of a historical analysis of the existing building group and how this developed over time. The Landscape design included the retention of many of the existing trees on the site, which are subject to tree preservation orders. The project received a regional RIBA award.
