Listed Building - Grade II, New Build
The client, a PLC, had purchased Trentham Gardens and wished to redevelop the site. A Public Enquiry was called and I was approached to be an Expert Witness for the PLC. The architecturally important large country house had been mostly demolished in the early 20th century - only various ancilliary listed buildings remained in a very decayed state. I prepared the (very extensive) architectural history documentation and appeared at the Public Enquiry. Part of the PLC's proposals were for rebuilding the demolished country house, which was to be used as a 100 bedroom hotel. As a result of my evidence I was asked to make variant schemes showing the proposed hotel. I therefore did so, making designs in an historic idiom, in a Modernist style and in a contemporary manner. Permission was granted for the redevelopment. The CGI shown here was prepared in association with Dyer Associates.
