Davenport Architecture Ltd were appointed with Pearson Fraser Ltd to carry out a master plan appraisal for South Downs College, with a view to rationalising the existing campus and providing a long-term estates strategy. The first phase of the plan was the creation of a new building to house a CEDEC, which would be the home of Science, Engineering and Construction. The building was designed in two half's. The new CEDEC building was designed to work as a standalone scheme with a full height central atrium, using natural ventilation and creating a new exciting and inspiring entrance to the campus. The second half of the design would replace a large portion of the existing accommodation across the campus, allowing the estate to be rationalised. This second section would house the main Student Services, Refectory, Catering and Learning Resource Centre. The two halves are linked via the central atrium spaces, pulled together around a new student hub which would become the heart of the campus and provide a catalyst for future development.
