We take the time to get to know our clients to ensure we truly understand what they want. This can certainly be said for this project at The Elms, where we were able to understand the scale of the client’s ambition for a small but luxurious home extension reflecting their high end and minimalist taste. The relatively modest extension carefully integrates itself with the existing building, with the project being detailed to a high level of refinement due to the client’s aspirations for a luxurious and high quality open plan living space. Running the entire length of the building, the high specification internal finishes and fit-out of the space blend old and new. Through careful design, this new space with clean lines integrates all the features of the old utility but without the clutter and physical need for a dedicated utility room. The use of full height bi-folding doors blurs the boundary of indoor and outdoor spaces and helps to create a unifying relationship, tying the extension to the garden. Externally, the new extension clearly expresses itself and stands out from the rest of the house with its slate grey cladding panels and a thin profile flat roof, all to suit the client’s aspiration for modernity and minimalism inside and out.
