This home owner was searching for a local Architect that understood the area, the local planning policies / guidance and critically would explore what options were the best to realize their ambitions. We were appointed to adapt the existing tired building layout into one that met all the client’s needs for modern, open-plan living as well as delivering an additional bedroom to meet the needs of a growing family. We explored a series of options which included advice on potential costs and anticipated responses from the Local Planning Authority. The proposal consisted of a large, rear single storey extension that makes use of a defining double gable roof form maximising the extent of roof lights and filling the open-plan, living space below with daylight. Upstairs, the first floor is transformed with the addition of a new bedroom, bathroom and enlarged second bedroom, allowing for the creation of an en-suite for the main master bedroom. This fantastic transformation took this house from having only 3 bedrooms with a small box room and single bathroom to spacious 4 bedroom property with ample space to suit the needs of a growing family.
