Brownfield site, New Build
Entry in an open EU wide competition by the City of Heidelberg, inviting proposals to convert a former US Army Hospital site of 9 ha into a new family friendly, mixed-use neighbourhood. Drawing inspiration from the desirable Weststadt neighbourhood the scheme is based on a plot-based approach to urbanism to guide and promote growth of development. Set at a certain width each plot is capable to accommodate various building typologies. Plots can be sold individually or as multiples to encourage diversity. Infrastructure elements are provided at regular intervals to support the concept. A neighbourhood square and park offer amenities for outdoor community life. The scheme was a joint entry with URBED, Ian White Associates and Civic Engineers.
