Public art project to transform a derelict piece of land adjacent to Town Green Station into a community garden. We were commissioned to design a peaceful space full of artwork for commuters and local residents to enjoy, created by community groups and a local primary school. Deciding to design a series of concrete installations allowed children of all year groups, from Nursery to Year Six, to participate in the project. Following initial design workshops with Year Six to develop a layout for the garden we facilitated reminiscence sessions between Year Five pupils and residents of a local care home to record shared memories of the station. The memories informed the design of a mural housed in the station building. The designs for the concrete installations and in some cases the final pieces of artwork itself were produced in workshops with classes of the entire school. Workshops with local community groups led to the creation of pop up artworks for the opening celebrations. The objective throughout the project was to introduce new skills and techniques to all participants and encourage them to consider different methods of creating artwork.
