West Somerset
£0.5m to £0.99M
New Build, Para 79 house
The site lies outside of any defined settlements limits and our approach follows both the NPPF paragraph 84 route makes reference the Taunton Deane and Somerset West Design Guide. The proposal is of a scale and design that will preserve and harmonise with the character and appearance of the landscape, befitting to its Brendon Hills rural location close to Exmoor National Park. The residence is constructed to suit the sloping site topography and has been designed specifically to read as one coherent horizontal form sitting comfortably within the landscape, providing a three-bedroom dwelling, with respective living areas. The client has chosen the main living areas, e.g. kitchen, lounge and dining area to be orientated south and interconnected to a private more shaded ‘hidden’ courtyard to the north. The hidden courtyard also provides the opportunity to conceal the house visibly from the main entrance and views from Parish Quarry Road.
