d4p completed the extension and refurbishment of this Victorian terrace house in Clapham. The client’s brief was to extend the existing house to create a new kitchen and dining room. During the design stage, getting the correct balance between the size of the new extension and the reduction of garden space was of paramount importance. Therefore, retaining the existing character and existing architectural language of the overall building was a key objective. Hence, the extension is built with bricks reclaimed during demolitions together with proportions that are subordinate to the host building.
