cube_design was appointed by Dorset County Council through recommendation to produce a strategic review and educational masterplan for the 1,500 pupil secondary school. The site is set in a historic parkland landscape, occupied by a Grade II listed Manor House, which dominates the front of the site. The scheme includes the development of a masterplan for whole site, along with new Dining and Sixth Form facility linked to the Manor House and a new build Maths, Science and Humanities building. The new Dining and Sixth Form Centre wraps around the historic garden wall replacing a cluster of rear extension buildings. The setting of the new building for Maths, Science and Humanities and its relationship to the Dining and Sixth Form building was critical in creating an enclosure to the central courtyard and walled gardens. The concept behind the Maths, Science and Humanities building was to capture and connect the new building at all times to the historic landscape.
