KMF Apprentice Training Centre A purpose built training facility adjacent to the main factory headquarters at High Carr Business Park. Opened by Sir Richard Nobel OBE, the building offers state of the art educational training, small conference and marketing facilities in a purpose designed building encompassing modern methods of construction; the main superstructure being built from structural insulated panels (SIP). The project embraces the use of renewable energy in the form of under floor heating powered by a ground source heat pump, together with grey water harvesting and passive ventilation, which has achieved a recorded 60% saving in running costs over more conventional forms of construction. Betley Primary School A contemporary single-storey mono-pitched extension to Betley Primary School to provide a new main entrance, reception office facilities and toilet accommodation. The extension replaced a poor quality single-storey flat roof 1970’s extension with a ‘light-weight’, glazed structure that lightly touches the original Victorian school building. The new building creates a sense of entrance and transforms the circulation and access to the school. Newcastle-under-Lyme School | The Quad Remodelling of the old school courtyard to convert the space into a usable outdoor hub where pupils, teaching staff and visitors can relax, congregate and socialise. A large amphitheatre provides the centrepiece of the re-modelled plaza, constructed using tiered natural stone blocks and incorporating a DDA compliant pathway, allowing transition from the lower level to the upper level for wheelchair users. From this central meeting place, new improved hard paved circulation routes/pathways interlink between the various teaching blocks, interjected and guided through raised angular planting bend and grassed areas. Through design and choice of materials the courtyard has been transformed into a safe and attractive place in harmony with its historic surroundings.
