Southend-on-Sea

£100,000 to £249,999
Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture Ltd
1b Iliffe Street , LONDON , SE17 3LJ , United Kingdom
The proposal is to extend and refurbish part of St Peter’s Church, Westcliff, to create a new entrance, social café and meeting space. The new space is required to support and connect the existing spaces, as well as providing a new function that will help the church to serve it’s active community. Through the extension and refurbishment, the church intends to both improve the quality of their spaces and make a positive contribution to the local character and streetscape. Their new interventions are designed to increase awareness of their community services by creating a more welcoming entrance from the street. The design evolved in line with feedback from consultation with Southend Planning Authority, the Diocesan Advisory Committee , and the Twentieth Century Society on the proposals (the 1930s building was designed Humphrey and Hurst Architects). The project has successfully received planning permission.
