New Build, Alteration to existing property
The loft library is a renovated Victorian terrace in North London with a new loft and rear side extension. The design of an intimate library space was inspired by the client’s love of reading and writing. The under-utilised loft space was transformed into a wonderfully bright and peaceful space to read, write and reflect with fantastic views overlooking the garden and beyond. The client’s extensive book collection is displayed on a series of bespoke bookcases and display areas. The ground floor kitchen and dining space has been dramatically opened up and extended out into the garden. Large glass doors and windows draw in ample natural light and provide fantastic views of the garden. The walls are clad in fitted bookshelves, and houses the extensive book collection and also provides a place to read, work and study. The ground floor kitchen and dining space has been dramatically opened up and extended out into the garden. Large glass doors and windows draw in ample natural light and provide fantastic views of the garden. A simple palette of dusty green and warm timber is the backdrop in a room where the books and treasured objects collected over a lifetime is the main focus. The loft appears bright and spacious because of the full height windows to the garden and the glazed panels to the new loft staircase. The colours are inspired by the natural and earthy materials of an english garden emphasising the connection between the built environment and nature.
