2 large, detached houses, with associated gardens, garages and a private shared driveway. Situated in the beautiful West Oxfordshire village of Shipton-Under-Wychwood this project was with a small local developer and resident of the area who wanted to explore options for their site on the eastern edge of the village. Coleman Hicks relished the challenge to breathe new life into the disused, overgrown, early 20th-century rural manufacturing site. Early planning permissions were gained for first a single dwelling, then reconsidered for two detached dwellings on the site. Our Client, was luckily driven enough to further pursue a final scheme beyond these initial permissions. With our help, they produced a final development that was much more in keeping with the vernacular styles of the area. With its traditional roof pitches, details and materials, with quaint, rhythmic dormers it is a perfect fit for the local context. All in all, although quite a long haul on the planning front, and an incredibly challenging project from the outset, we reached practical completion in 2023 and our Client and the practice are really happy with the end result. We look forward to new ventures with them in future.
