Listed Building - Grade I, Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Sympathetic restoration of an exquisite Grade I listed 1789 townhouse, from several apartments back to a grand family home. The project team’s intention was to restore the wealth of period charm throughout the building including original sash windows, marble fireplaces and opulent cornicing across six floors. With six bedrooms, a vaulted wine-cellar, roof terrace, dressing room and garage, this project was a 10-month long residential labour of love of nearly 8,000 square foot involving over forty tradesmen and women. Early engagement with Planning and Conservation Officers helped to secure a positive planning outcome for this historic building, set in a world heritage zone and a prominent Bath location. The property’s most famous resident to date is poet and playwright Hannah More, whose brass plaque sits on the exterior of her former home.
