A self-build project for a retired couple on a secluded 1.5 acre plot that previously accommodated an old cottage, Middle Ty Brith is a 3 bedroom detached house designed to respond to the setting and features of the site. as well as the needs of the occupants. The property sits in the centre of the plot with a south facing entrance hall, principal reception room and kitchen, flooding the house with light. The central staircase runs to a large window on the half landing at the rear of the house. This overlooks grounds that slope away to a new pond and the band of trees that define the northern boundary of the site, a view shared by the main bedroom. The guest bedrooms look to the Berwyn Hills to the east. Large sliding glass doors to the ‘farmhouse’ kitchen open onto a terrace and the south facing garden. The Western Red Cedar cladding is still weathering to both the house and the garage which stands at the head of a range of outbuildings, the cladding to the garage linking these existing buildings to the new house.
