A self-build project on a secluded 1.5 acre plot that previously accommodated an old cottage, Middle Ty Brith is a 3 bedroom detached house designed to respond to the setting and features of the site. The property sits in the centre of the plot with a south facing entrance hall, principal reception room and kitchen, flooding the house with light. The central staircase runs to a large window on the half landing at the rear of the house. This overlooks grounds that slope away to a pond and the band of trees that define the northern boundary of the site, a view shared by the main bedroom. The guest bedrooms look to the Berwyn Hills on the east horizon. Large sliding glass doors to the ‘farmhouse’ kitchen open onto a terrace and the south facing garden. The Western Red Cedar cladding is still weathering to both the house and the garage which stands at the head of a range of outbuildings, the cladding to the garage linking these existing buildings to the house.
