A self-build four-bedroom detached house in London Borough of Redbridge. We gained planning approval for the first new house at the end of a garden that backed onto a small cul-de-sac. The house was designed with a split-level arrangement take advantage of the natural falls of the site and minimise the impact on neighbours. The main living and entrance level WC cloakroom are located on the entrance level with a large bright open-plan kitchen/dining room and intimate private garden on the lower level. For the external appearance the contemporary design responds to the suburban and Mock Tudor character of neighbouring Conservation Areas with soft red bricks to the ground floor and a framed brick relief detail in chalky white bricks to the upper storey. The characterful gable end presents a strong silhouette to the approach road, signalling the domesticity of the area and provide playful visual interest.
