This project includes a rear ground floor extension that replaces and enlarges the original dining room and kitchen, a hip to gable extension and major internal alterations to a semi-detached house in West Norwood. The Client’s interest in Japanese architecture inspired many of the project’s features including a south-west facing wrap-around window seat, large bi-fold doors and full-width patio that echo the qualities of the traditional Japanese nure'en, allowing for an intimate connection between the interior and the garden and contributing to a life more connected with nature and sunlight. A bright double-height study/reading space leads up to a new large master bedroom occupying the whole of the second floor with morning light and views to the east and a casual seating area in the evening sun filled dormer window to the west.
