Cotswold
£1m to £1.99M
The existing property comprises a well constructed stone faced property, dated 1877, originally part of an agricultural estate, Copse Hill. The building formerly served as private acetlyene gas works to serve the large mansion. The proposal broadly sites the new annex behind the existing gasworks as single storey extension. A new steel barn defines the envelope of the building, acting as a holistic ?wrap? which gives homage of to the old industrial character and form but at the same time a modern sustainable annex which makes a delightful contrast to the main building. The new building is seen to work with the landscape and to offer a contemporary yet sensitive response. The development of Gasworks Cottage as proposed would bring: >The imaginative and sensitive redevelopment of the site with creation of an appropriate and functional, yet very progressive, building >The introduction of a very carefully-considered architectural concept into the Gloucestershire countryside; one which is of national significance and distinction in its approach to quality and sustainabilty, notably the integration of internal and external factors. >The investment and commitment of Miss Jeanette Winterson, a local person committed to living, working and enhancing their local area to the highest standards.
