Unanimously approved by Colchester Borough Council, this redevelopment conserves and revitalises a historic hospital campus while delivering 120 new homes. The scheme restores and repurposes Grade II listed and locally listed buildings, including the main hospital and former nurses’ home, complemented by new one- to three-bedroom apartments and three- and four-bedroom town houses. The design retains the distinctive perimeter wall and courtyard structure of the site, using a series of landscaped courtyards as the foundation for community life and placemaking. Sustainability and wellbeing underpin the approach, with enhanced green space, walking and cycling prioritised, and low-carbon technologies including photovoltaics and EV charging. Digital modelling and VR supported collaborative design development with the local authority.
