This renovation and extension of a 6,900 sq ft Edwardian house in Highgate increased its size by 4,000 sq ft and allows three grand reception rooms adjoining a large kitchen, a study, games room, and six bedroom suites. The addition of an extensive basement complex allows provision of a pool, steam room, and cinema room. The basement stretches beneath the existing house (involving the complete underpinning of the house) and extends beneath a new rear terrace. The design takes advantage of the slope of the site transforming the garden elevation, which previously sat the house on a high terrace above the garden. The new design sites the pool and gym beneath the terrace level and their fully glazed walls and Schüco doors open onto the mature garden. The swimming pool is approached through a vaulted wine cellar with a vista down the length of the pool and onto the garden, landscaped by Lord Randle Siddeley.
