Loose Box Studios is the first phase of a project to reinstate an early 20th Century Drill Hall of prefabricated panelled timber construction. The Drill Hall was moved from its original site in Malmesbury to a farm near Tetbury, Gloucestershire. This fascinating building, of heritage interest but unlisted, had fallen into disrepair and was structurally unsound. We researched the building's history and construction – ‘loose box’ was the original name for the stables - and prepared a plan for careful disassembly of the component parts. We obtained planning permission for our clients to rebuild the structure and bring it into a new use. A second phase will reinstate the single volume Drill Hall structure behind.
