Alteration to existing property, Within a Conservation Area
Charles Barclay Architects , 74 Josephine Avenue , London , Greater London , SW2 2LA , United Kingdom
This unusual modernist house in Chislehurst, designed in 1962 by architect Norman Starrett, has a redwood-lined first floor living room styled by Terence Conran, his first project. CB were brought in to update the interiors, while adding a cantilevered study and garage element to the west elevation. The kitchen/dining room on the ground floor (the former party room) was opened up to the garden terrace and features a terrazzo floor and a bay window/reading niche. Fold-down beds were added to the Study and Play room for the occasional visits of the extended family. External terraces at each level with connecting stairs provide an outside circulation route, while the garden was given a full re-design by Del Buono Gazerwitz.
