The project consist of three main elements: •New build Dance Creation Centre and performance space with residential accommodation. •Renovation of the Theatre and remodelling of an existing 1930’s brick built library to improve access, and to provide ancillary, meeting and performance spaces. •Glazed atrium link to provide circulation space between the two existing brick built structures and connection through to the new building. The new spaces have a light and modern atmosphere, the ceiling of the double height space flows the slop of the roof and is capped with a large curved north light. The flexible space is designed for uses from dance and theatre to art displays and has variable acoustics and heat recovery ventilation to enable this. A large picture windows connecting activities happening inside the theatre space with the green public park beyond. The project combines contemporary architecture with the historic existing buildings to provide practical spaces that are used by the general public and professional performers alike.
