Randalls is a mixed use development of 58 apartments and 2 retail units on the site of a Grade II Listed former department store. The development re-used the Art Deco shell of the historically valuable existing buildings as well and providing new build apartment blocks. Retail units where retained at ground floor to keep an active street front and mix of uses on site. The Listed shell of the former department store was carefully adapted and extended onto the roof to provide new apartments. A retained old fire station building was also converted. 3 new sensitively designed apartment blocks of up to 6 storeys were added to the site. The material and appearance of the new build blocks had to be carefully considered and detailed to satisfy strict planning requirements. The layout and design of the dwellings within the Listed building took full advantage of the large windows and Art Deco features.
