We were engaged by East Suffolk Council to undertake the design of 72 new beach huts in Lowestoft over two levels at the promenade level and another at a deck level above. The design took the style of a traditional hut and adjusted the roof and wall elements to reflect the unique attributes of the area and the fact the town is the most easterly point in the UK. The orientation of beach hut was twisted slightly to face south to make best use of the available daylight while creating a sheltered space. The beach huts make best use of natural light and special consideration was given to making the beach more accessible for residents and visitors – improving the social sustainability of the project.
