Having completed significant refurbishment of this 5 bed shooting lodge following it’s purchase, our client wanted to boost a growing wedding venue venture by extending to create a large dining area. The extension is also to house a separate staff apartment, to free up the main Lodge for guest use. Given the remote and historic location in the Ettrick forest, our client was keen not to detract, or distract, from the original Lodge, or the surrounding beauty. Our challenge therefore, was to locate this extension ‘underground’. By burying part of the extension and covering in an undulating green roof, we emulate the surrounding landscape giving the impression that it sweeps over the extension to soften it’s impact on the surrounding landscape. The fully frameless glazed front elevation and glass roof ensure this semi-subterranean space is filled with light during the day, and offers spectacular stargazing opportunities in a night sky unaffected by light pollution.
