Crimble Mill is an iconic, rurally located, Grade II* listed spinning mill on the outskirts of Heywood, Rochdale, with attached engine house and warehouses. The complex was constructed circa 1825 and received later additions and alterations from the mid-19th century right through to the mid-20th century. The property is currently vacant, in a poor state of repair and consequently, on Historic England’s Buildings at Risk Register. Cb3, as part of an extensive project team, has been charged with the restoration of the existing mill, and change of use of the upper floors to 33 dwellings with ground floor commercial floorspace (Classes E, F1 or F2). External works include the replacement/removal of existing bridges, restoration of the mill pond and leat and construction of flood alleviation measures. Site wide, the project will include the construction of 180 dwellings, together with associated engineering/retention works, the provision of surface water balancing ponds, open space, and landscape and ecological improvements.
