New Build
Cayford was appointed for the full design and delivery of this highly energy-efficient sports pavilion, forming part of a new school campus development. Designed using Passivhaus principles, the building employs robust traditional masonry construction—chosen for its durability in a school environment and suitability for construction by a local contractor. Although full Passivhaus certification was not feasible due to the building's compact size and fixed orientation alongside the sports pitches, the project was self-certified to the AECB Building Standard. This standard follows the full Passivhaus methodology, using PHPP modelling, but allows for slightly more flexible energy targets. The completed pavilion is now listed on the AECB Low Energy Buildings database and stands as a practical example of low-energy, fabric-first design tailored to real-world site constraints.
