New Build
In June 2008, the DCSF Schools Adjudicator invited proposals to establish a new mainstream school at Buckshaw Village, under Section 7(1) of the Education and Inspectors Act 2006. The school is to be situated on a reserved site on the corner of Buckshaw Avenue and Village Way, Buckshaw Village, Chorley, Preston, Lancashire. The aim was to provide a distinctive building that relates well to the surroundings, whilst also providing a clarity and enclosure to the various age groups found in a Primary School. A competition was held with both Blackburn Diocese + Chorley Methodist Circuit, and LCC submitting bids for the new development with Cassidy + Ashton acting for the Diocese. Blackburn Diocese and Chorley Methodist Circuit were then selected to establish a new Primary School at Buckshaw Village. The school is to offer accommodation for a one form entry school for 210 pupils; from Reception Class to Year 6. The overall scale of the school reflects the constraints of the site and the need for an efficient site layout including sufficient hard and soft play areas. Furthermore, the scale of the building allows it to appear as a feature within a predominately two storey area, without being dwarfed by surrounding development.
