Bolton School have commissioned Cassidy + Ashton to master plan a phased development over 5 years to upgrade and expand their school to meet current demands The overall strategy has since been adopted by the school and the projects consist of new junior & infants schools, and 6th Form Centre. The new Infants School comprises a 3 form entry of approx 200 pupils ranging from the ages of 4 to 7 and is located on land owned by the school continuing a long standing educational use on the school grounds. Significant consultation with Bolton Council’s own Conservation Officer has enabled a more modern design to evolve, but still paying reference to the main school complex through the use of matching materials and design features. The finished scheme provides a state of the art education facility within a historical setting. In addition to the more recent Development Plan appointment, the practice has been Architects to the school for many years receiving various commissions across the school site. These include a new swimming pool and sports hall, the conversion of the old swimming pool into an Arts Centre with a two storey atrium style entrance, re-organisation of arts & science laboratories, refurbishment of home economics and drama studios, and the addition of an external porch using glass, steel and stone.
