Alteration to existing property
This project unfolds within the embrace of a 1920s semi-detached house situated on a tranquil residential street in Winchmore Hill, North London. The house, having undergone multiple extensions over time, including a loft conversion and ground floor rear extension, presented a peculiar challenge. The rear spaces - comprising the kitchen, laundry and cloakroom - lacked light, warmth and meaningful connection to the beautiful garden. Entrusted with the task of revitalizing this house, CASA Architecture + Design embarked on a transformative journey, aiming to elevate both its aesthetic appeal and functional aspects. The meticulously designed extension introduces a contemporary flair, featuring an open-plan kitchen-diner-stove area characterized by high ceilings and expansive sliding doors that effortlessly invite abundant natural light and establish a seamless link with the rear garden. This new extension artfully blends traditional elements, such as exposed timber structures, brick walls, and a shaker-style kitchen, with more modern touches like exposed steel beams. The harmonious fusion results in a spacious kitchen and family room, bathed in natural light and offering captivating vistas of the lush garden. The space exudes warmth and cosiness, gracefully aligning with the existing style of the house while simultaneously providing a functional and comfortable living environment. CASA Architecture + Design provided a range of services, including initial design studies, guidance and submission of planning applications, coordination of the new structure with the architectural design, and the development of all necessary technical drawings. Our involvement extended to advising on the tender process, recommending builders, and meticulously reviewing their quotes. During construction, we monitored the builder and advised the client and builder when necessary.
