R.I.B.A Town and Country Award 2006 Belcombe Lodge is a large Victorian house in an elevated position above Bradford on Avon with wonderful views across the valley towards the Tithe Barn. The essence of the proposal is to take advantage of these views and to increase the sense of light entering the rear of the house. On the front this is achieved by a split level extension that 'spins' off the main house. The entire elevation of this element slides away to allow access onto a breakfast terrace. Rainwater is collected over a 'flying beam' and then discharges into a pond. To the rear a new lantern has been added over a secret stair with the rear part of the house opening onto an enclosed court.
