Alteration to existing property
Ground Floor Rear Chapel , Jonathan Scott Hall , Thorpe Road , NORWICH , NR1 1UH
Simplicity of design: a roof and a garden view. Cannon Clarke Architects have been engaged for the design of a domestic remodelling of the rear of a detached dwelling in Norwich. The internal layout makes an open-plan space of the kitchen, dining and living room, loosely defined as separate spaces with changes of floor levels and joinery elements. An interior climbing wall was one essential aspect of the client's brief and was manifest in the final design. The architectural solution is simple given the flanking walls could not accommodate windows due to overlooking, and thus a single aspect large expanse of glazing defines the end elevation with a panoramic view down the garden. The icing on the cake is the design of the roof which will comprise of a timber diagrid with deep coffers. Rooflights are placed on a ‘hit-and-miss’ basis giving a chequerboard affect, drawing natural light deep into the plan. Cannon Clarke Architects scope of services was based on RIBA Stage 0-4
