Championing the initiative, artist Grayson Perry helped create an innovative scheme exclusively for artists, consisting of 12 live-work units situated above a gallery and community space. calfordseaden provided multidisciplinary services to clients J. Murphy and Sons, focusing on affordable, sustainable housing while serving as architects and lead designers for RIBA stages 4-6. Located in Barking town centre, this ambitious project offers flexible living and workspaces for artists and their families across five floors. In exchange for reduced rent, the artists deliver free creative programs to the community. The building's fair-faced concrete presented technical challenges, but its simplicity and elegance were preserved.
