During August 2018 an extremely generous charitable donor bought the property, known as 175 St John Street. Place2Be were offered an affordable 10 year lease, at a very charitable rate, making the prime address a viable option for the organisation to move into a single HQ, rather than various buildings that they were utilising 1/2 a mile north of 175, at Angel Gate, Islington. The strip out and mobilisation works commenced one week after the completion of the sale took place. Then the rapid planning of the procurement works evolved at pace during September and October 2018. The works were then undertaken to transform the tired office space into a modern, accessible, professional facility which meets the needs of Place2Be staff, Volunteer Counsellors, and those undertaking our expert training. The funding for the project was from various sources, 50% of the budget was raised in advance, and 50% throughout the works. C3M studio worked closely with the client, suggesting an auction to raise funds in the post Christmas period, this raised the monies required to get the project to the desired level fit for the organisation. C3M continues to assist with enhancement works on the scheme, and is currently designing the building signage, to finally get the name above the door. The Ground and First Floors house the university training activities. There are two separate training rooms on the Ground Floor and a large room on the First Floor (which is a more flexible space, able to be partitioned in two separate rooms) complimented by a break-out space for refreshments and informal networking. There is a replica ‘Place2Be Room’ on the Ground Floor (modelled on the 284 rooms in Place2Be partner schools around the UK) for use by those training with Place2Be to pursue careers in child counselling, as they hone their skills and prepare for taking up clinical placements in schools as Volunteer Counsellors. The student Library is housed on the Ground Floor, to ensure we are compliant with the requirements of the accrediting bodies who endorse our Post-Graduate Diploma (PG Dip) and Masters (MA) – the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the University of East London (UEL). Smaller rooms on the First Floor host more intimate or confidential activity, such as interviews, safeguarding meetings, clinical supervision, learning tutorials and therapy spaces. All together this suite of rooms enable delivery of all aspects of our market-leading expert training; from group sessions, to lectures, tutorials, and workshops. Floors 2, 3, and 4 house open plan office space to foster collaboration between the different departments which support and underpin the services provided by Place2Be: From Finance, Legal Compliance and Fundraising; to HR and Volunteer Counsellor Recruitment; Clinical Operations and Service Delivery; Learning and Development; Research and Evaluation; Governance and Communications. These open working spaces are complemented by further numerous meeting rooms, which are also available for podcasts, tutorials, and 1-1 supervisions. Each of these floors also has a tea point, break out area and plenty of storage space for organising confidential records, financial documents and charity materials. The Fifth floor houses the Place2Be Board Room, together with a kitchen and staff ‘bistro’ break out area, known as the ‘bistro’ with access to a roof terrace offering magnificent 360 views across the London skyline. All together the building offers 14,200 sqft feet over 6 floors.
