GradPad is a project / joint venture between Imperial College and VOREDA property investors. Nearing completion of the principal shell & core then basic fit out, we were approached to assess and look at the characterless spaces that were left over in the building, coming up with a strategy for improving the spaces for break out, reception, waiting and study, within the ground floor of the new building. C3M Studio were invited to investigate the options for a refresh (upon completion) of the basic fit out, to the student break out spaces, study areas, tea-points, reception space and lobby area. The outcome allowed the evolution of a bespoke furniture package, introducing plug in a play study pods, or booths, reception benches, iPad drop down zones, and general furniture enhancements to the main common areas through a re rationalisation of the soft furnishings and shading to the windows utilising algae’ hanging installations, to soften the large space.
