The design and construction of a pair of new Contemporary homes for a private client site of scrub land surrounded and enclosed by mature trees. The two houses have been designed to complement each other in terms of massing, materials and form while one has a slightly more traditional feel owing to its pitched roof forms and the other a more sculptural form. Built to exacting standards using air source heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation systems, rainwater recycling, LED lighting throughout these houses are expected to be over 50% more energy efficient than current Building Regulations with 40% of their energy produced by renewable technologies. The houses are raised out of the ground on piles and a suspended slab to minimise impact to the extensive Root Protection Zones around the site from the many TPO protected trees.
