St John's Tavern is a landmark late 19th century pub in the Junction Road Conservation Area. Drawing on early photographic evidence, Butler Hegarty Architects restored the building to its robust prominence by recreating lost historic fabric. Dramatic lanterns were fabricated and reinstated. Windows and window openings were replaced, and the original rusticated finish was recreated. The cornice was reinstated to its original profile and capped in lead. The parapet was rendered with a new reconstituted stone coping and the chimney feature was restored. New signage was applied, and the elevations were redecorated.
