Listed Building - Grade II*, Within a Conservation Area
Unit 3.2, Islington Studios , 159 - 163 Marlborough Road , LONDON , N19 4NF
This is a fine example of a Grade 2* listed early Georgian town house, which forms the central part of a larger terrace, and is located within a Conservation Area. The building had been divided into four flats, was derelict, and the structure was at the point of collapse, so the challenge was to carefully repair and restore the fabric of the building, and create a family home, with a separate basement flat. Extensive repairs were required to the rear elevation This building had a large amount of original 18th century fabric intact. All the original joinery, including doors, door linings, architraves, skirtings, staircase, and panelling, was retained. Contemporary kitchen and bathrooms were created in the panelled rooms by placing the kitchen cabinets and bathroom elements as freestanding objects standing away from the historic fabric.
