Wirral
This project involved the redesign of and extension to the rear of a Victorian semi-detached house in West Kirby, Wirral. The client had recently received a diagnosis of a serious health condition which required the layout of the rear of the house to be substantially altered to accommodate the necessary changes to their lifestyle. This primarily involved opening up the existing rooms at the rear of the house and extending out to provide space for a generous kitchen, dining area and living space. This area then opens out through generously wide sliding doors to an expansive raised terrace from where views of the garden can be enjoyed. A major aspect of the design was retaining the existing chimney breast as a central feature which also provides some delineation of the different spaces. Overhead windows bring in additional natural light to the kitchen which is at the rear of the extended space.
