Acting as concept and fitout architects for Uniqlo, the design looked to deliver the clients first Scandinavian shop and looked to bring the current retail thinking into a flagship location. The shop occupies the building known as Sweden House (Sverigehuset) in a prominent City Centre postion next to the Kings Garden (Kungsträdgården). Designed by Stockholm-born Sven Gottfried Markelius, one of the most important Swedish modernist architects, the now listed, Sweden House was completed in 1969. With its inmportance as a key example of Swedish moderniest design, we worked closely with the City Council to maintain feature elements from the original architecture in the new layout. The final new store layout delivers 26,500sqft GIA over four floors, accessed via the orginal feature staircase.
