The Studio at Old Ardtornish is situated in the West Highlands overlooking the Sound of Mull and Ardtornish Castle. The building is a live/work unit built on the site of a house that was demolished in 1907. The structure of the building is larch and douglas fir which was sourced, milled and fabricated on site. The roof and the north elevation are stainless steel and the other elevations are larch cladding from local trees. The building and its grounds have a minimal impact on the existing surroundings and the wider landscape but have been designed to recreate a sense of place on a site which has had a history of human habitation for many centuries.
